Is It AIM or A-I-M?

Uhmmm, does it really matter? I know you all have been asked that question at some point in your life, or you've been living under a rock. I would hate when people would tell me that they hate the way I say A-I-M (in the individual letters, instead of the one-worded way, AIM) I'm like seriously? Does it even matter? Gosh! (Okay, enough with that pointless rant)!

Tell me something, when was the last time you actually took the time to sign on to your instant messaging account, whether it be AIM (A-I-M) or Yahoo, when was the last time you actually held a conversation with one of your buddies? I remember back in middle school, my friends and I would rush from school and immediately sign on. Sometimes we'd have our away messages up and sometimes we'd be idle for hours, either way, we were signed on. Now it seems as if the younger up and coming generation are unaware of what Instant Messengers are all about. Everyone has a Myspace, Facebook or Twitter, what's the point of talking instantly via the internet? That's lame. Why not air our whole conversation via Facebook statuses so the rest of our friends can engage in it as well? Things just aren't the same anymore. Kids these days don't appreciate a private conversation shared between two people and no one else.

Technology has definitely eliminated private conversations. When instant messengers were becoming the it thing to have, people felt like it was taking a little away from privacy because anyone can sign on as you and pretend to be you. But Facebook and Twitter has taken a whole new outlook on what's private or not. The only way for something to be considered private is via private message, and who wants to do that anymore? A post on a wall is so much easier, riiiiiiiiiiight! *sarcasm*

  1. Hahahaha i always said AIM... I remember being in middle school and YES we were all OBSESSED with AIM. Everyone had their personal info profiles with shoutouts to their friends aNd WrOtE LiKe ThIs, and gathered up as many buddies from different groups of people possible. While some of my younger cousins have AIM or iChat accounts nowadays, most of them are all about facebook (no surprise there). I still use AIM though- obviously not as much, but my friends still have their accounts and I still talk to them avidly online. This post took me back!

  2. Haha, I forgot when people used to TyPe LiKe ThIs, man did that get on my nerves. It's cool you still use AIM to communicate with old friends, I use it from time to time, but everyone is always signed on to their phone so they tell me to text them. It truly was the bomb dot com back in the day, I wonder if it'll make a major comeback!

    Thanks for posting!

  3. Reading this brings back a lot of memories. I just like you remember in high school coming home from school or even hanging out with friends for the day then getting on AIM (or A-I-M) haha and talking for hours. It seems that Facebook has taken over but I do not remember when I stopped using AIM it seems like there was a period of a year or so around senior year of high school where I didn't use any chatting program.

  4. Haha, those were the good 'ol days! I used AIM all through high school and freshman year in college (well up until I got a Facebook which was at the end of Fall. Freshman year) and I rarely sign on anymore. If I do, I'm barely chatting with anyone.

  5. Its so funny that everyones mentioned the memories using AIM has brought them, because I remember back in middle school when I used AIM for hours every night and it was the cool thing to do. The funny thing is, after a break through high school and most of college, I have once again returned to AIM, this time with my MacBook so I can iChat with my friends. Its like I left a little piece of technology behind and it somehow worked its way back into my life.

Oh, and I say A-I-M...its an acronym! =) lol

  6. Awww, sounds like such a happy story. It is pretty cool to give things a little break and come back to them a few years later and realize how amazing having access to these things are/were!
